Barfoots attends Farm to Fork Summit at Downing Street
Barfoots are proud to have represented British growers at the recent Farm to Fork Summit at Downing Street.
It was the Prime Minister’s second UK Farm to Fork Summit, which aimed to recognise the crucial importance of the farming and food sector to our nation and explore further opportunities to turbocharge the sector as an engine for growth.
The NFU called for the food summit in the run up to the Conservative leadership election in 2022, with the first being held at Downing Street in 2023.
The NFU also called for it to be an annual event and for the publication of an annual Food Security Index, with this second summit attended by almost a hundred representatives from food and farming organisations, as well as members of Cabinet and departments across Whitehall.
Barfoots were invited with a handful of other food producers and farming innovators to celebrate the successes of the industry and showcase our produce. It was an interesting morning talking about growing vegetables, our challenges and how the government can support us.
A number of announcements were made by Rishi Sunak at the summit to boost fruit and veg production in the UK, as detailed in this statement from the NFU.
